Oracle 11g R2 “ORACLE_BASE not set in environment” It is recommended

The following error was reported in the alert log during instance startup after recovering from a pmon crash in a RAC environment.

Starting background process RSMN

Fri NOV 22 16:55:40 2013

RSMN started with pid=28, OS id=24795

ORACLE_BASE not set in environment. It is recommended

that ORACLE_BASE be set in the environment

Fri Dec NOV 22 16:59:40 2013

ALTER DATABASE MOUNT /* db agent */

Solution:

srvctl setenv database -d ANARDB -t “ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle”

Once that was executed, I bounced this particular instance using:

srvctl stop instance -d ANARDB -i ANARDB2

srvctl start instance -d ANARDB -i ANARDB2

Resolved the issue

Starting background process RSMN

Wed NOV 22 17:39:47 2013

ORACLE_BASE from environment = /u01/app/oracle

Wed NOV 22 17:39:48 2013

ALTER DATABASE MOUNT /* db agent */
