Enable And/Or Disable Oracle Database Vault on Windows machines

1.) Before disabling the database vault , the following oracle database server components needs to be stopped :
Oracle Database Instance .
Oracle Listener.
Oracle Enterprise Manager.
In general the following commands can be used to stop the above components after setting the following environment variables PATH ORACLE_HOME ORACLE_SID TNS_ADMIN LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
$emctl stop dbconsole
$lsnrctl stop <listener_name>
$SQLPLUS / as sysdba
SQL>shutdown immediate
2.) Disable the Database Vault.
On a Windows system use the following steps :
a.) Rename oradv<number>.dll under %ORACLE_HOME%\bin to oradv<number>_backup.dll
for example :
oradv10.dll to oradv10_backup.dll
b.) Bringup the database
$SQLPLUS / as sysdba
SQL>startup
c.) At the command prompt execute dvca to disable dvca option by executing the following :
dvca -action disable -service <service> -sys_passwd <SYS password> -owner_account <DV owner account name> -owner_passwd <DV owner account password> [-logfile ./dvca.log] [-nodecrypt] [-racnode node]
example :
$ dvca -action disable -service TARDA1 -sys_passwd test -owner_account -owner_passwd test123#_ -logfile ./dvca.log -nodecrypt -silent
3.) Once the necessary operations are performed for which the database vault is disabled , enable the database vault .
sql>conn / as sysdba
sql>startup
$ dvca -action enable -oh /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1 -service myservicename -instance myinstance -dbname mydbname -owner_account myownername -logfile dvcalog.txt
4.) Enable the Database Vault at binary level by shutting down the database :
sql>conn / as sysdba
sql>shutdown immediate
On a Windows system use the following steps :
Rename oradv<number>_backup.dll under ORACLE_HOME\bin back to oradv<number>.dll
for example :
oradv10_backup.dll to oradv10.dll
5.) Start up the database and other components like listener and enterprise manager .
